Vodacom
Overpriced handsets

Telecommunications

I am replacing my iPhone 5 due to an insurance claim. Cellsure indicated that I had R7500 towards a replacement ohone. When enquiring at vodacom I was informed that the iPhone 5 is discontinued, but the cost would have been R10709. I was informed that only the iPhone 5s was available, but the cost is R11549. The Apple 5c would cost R9739. I called a few other Vodacom stores for same pricing on the same phones and the prices varied with as much as R200-400. I inquired at the iStore and this resulted that the iStore is around R1000 cheaper than Vodacom on the same phones. Why would Vodacom discontinue the iPhone 4s and 5? This is so they can sell overpriced stock to clients. This has happened to me before, I pay a lot of money on insurance and when needed, Vodacom ensures that the most expensive option is left to the client. If I go for the iPhone 5s option I will still have to pay in R4049. I do prefer apple and would not like to change, but Vodacom makes this impossible for their clients. I would like to know why Vodacom overcharges for phones and conveniently discontinues still available models? I am now forced to either upgrade or pay in R4049 in my insurance claim.
