I am on MTN 1gig 24 months Data contract (R69 pm). In December 2013 and January 2014, my auto debit suddenly increased to R104 and R145. I always had enough data at the end of each 13th billing month so there is no chance of data exhaust.

I contact one of the branches and the counter guy called the MTN call center. The answer from the call center was literally shocking.

They advised me that I have surfed some website and the website has charged EXTRA RANDS for that irrespective of available data in my account. They gave me some phone numbers to contact and ask them to remove my phone number from their list. How it can be possible when I have enough data available to surf internet? I used the sim on my ipad. I can't get any SMS or notification. My question is How do I know if something happens like this in future. How do I know that I am being charged extra?

The answer from MTN is not convincing at all.
