Enquired for insurance for my cell phone

I signed a contract with cell c for a Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Within my signing of the contract the sales consultant that was assisting me asked me if I would like to have insurance on my phone, then I replied YES but then he never said or told me anything about me calling a certain number to register and activate my insurance for the phone. So a month ago I lost my phone and I went to cell c menlyn and they told me its not there folt and that i would just have to carry on paying for the phone and the only thing i can do is just make a sim swap and that its not their folt that the consultant never mentioned anything to me about activating my insurance. And what makes it even more upsetting is that they are telling me that the person does not work there anymore.
