3 WEEKS WITHOUT A PHONE

I upgraded my cellphone contract in December to a Samsung Galaxy S2. I started experiencing problems with it switching off by itself and I returned it to the MTN store at the Glen on the 05/01/2013. As it had passed the 7 day day return period, the store indicated that it would need to be returned to their supplier which I understand. I phoned the store back over a week later and was told that my replacement had been approved by Samsung but that the store could not do this as they were out of stock of the phone. They promised to get back to me as soon as they received stock so that I could collect. another. I never received that call. I phoned the store back on Monday (21/01/2013). The gentleman who responded told me that the store STILL DID NOT have stock of the phone. I asked him to confirm when they were expecting delivery and he couldn't, but promised to phone me back as soon as he had the information. It is now 4 days later and I still have not been contacted. I am now without a phone for 3 weeks, and forced to use my old phone which is broken. Is it really acceptable to keep a customer waiting for 3 weeks and refuse to keep him informed of what's happening?
