ADSL contention - poor feedback

I have a 4 mbps line via Axxess internet with Afrihost as my data provider.

Starting in May this year I started having poor performance in the evening. In the morning and during bussiness hours I get full line speed. After going through several processes with both Axxess and Afrihost I started doing speedtests to the saix server using the telkom guest account. Some evenings I get tests slower than dial-up speed. 42kbps to be exact. After multiple incidents logged to Telkom via Axxess I finally got a response that the "box" needs to be upgraded as there are line contention. There are no exact time-frame for this to happen, with only a "sometime in the future".

Telkom is busy from me, because I get most of the time well below their minimum for 4mbps.

My internet is costing me - R1000, with landline rental without call costs a month, and I get the value of less than R200. Therefore Telkom is causes me to lose the value of R800 a month, and they can't fix a date for the "box" to be replaced / upgraded.
