Cancellation Rip Off!!!

My contract currently ends with Autopage at the end of August2013. I had faxed in a cancellation letter on the 20-08-2013 to autopage, and was informed that I would have to pay for the month of september. This is ridiciouls as the consultant informed me it takes a month to process this request. It makes no sense as to why i would need to pay an extra month -when it only is a 24month contract not 25 months. Further more when you do take out a contract-the consultant never does expalin the cancellation process. I have done my bit by sending in my letter why should it take a month to attend to my request???
