Autopage
Forced to continue with contract

Telecommunications

I have a current account with Autopage that comes to an end on 5 Sep 2013. I informed them on 30 Aug 2013 that I want the contract to be switched to a prepaid as I do not want to use the contract anymore, but that I still want to use the number. I contacted their call center and they informed me that the contract will only be switched to a prepaid on 15 Oct 2013 as I did not give them a month notice. I received a ref 1181201 for the call. This must be in contravention of the Consumer Protection Act as I surely cannot be forced to extend the contract for another month (40) days when it will come to an end on 5 Sep 2013. They continue to tell me that this is a cancellation when in fact the contract term of 24 months that I signed for comes to an end on 5 Sep 2013 so it cannot be seen as a cancellation when my obligation towards them comes to an end together with the contract period. Nobody from Autopage phoning me to inform me that if I do not want to continue with the contract at the end of the period that I need to give them a notice of a month. Why am I forced to continue with a contract that I do not need? I will surely also move my other contract away when it comes to an end.
