Misleading Upgrades From Autopage

I have been with Autopage from 10 July 2009. I last renewed my contract on 25 April 2011 (21.5 months after the initial contract was taken out). It is now coming up to the next contract renewal and I am constantly offered upgrades by Autopage from December 2012 (20 months after the last contract renewal and 41 months after the initial contract inception).

I am now considering moving and asked for the earliest cancellation date and have been told it is on 25 July 2013. When asked why this was the case, I was told that it was because I renewed on 25 April 2011 and I must therefore add the 3 months from the initial contract onto it.

Firstly, I did not have 3 months from the initial contract remaining, it was 2.5 months, and secondly, I find it rather disturbing (and question the legality of) offering a person a renewal from month 41 and expect them to wait till month 48 to cancel a contract. This means that as long as you stay with Autopage and if you keep taking them up on their early contract renewals, you will be tied in for ridiculously long cancellation periods when you want to change service providers. I find this shocking, deceitful & underhanded.
