Vodacom
Poor Service

Telecommunications

I tried to get a data contract with Vodacom. No device or handset was required by myself, data only. They asked for 6 months bank statements and when I said that I could only give them 3 months, the application was denied. A visit to my local shop established that they were happy to have 3 months bank statements, but as my previous application was denied I needed to have that reversed before I could have a contract. I was given a number to call which is not operational. Repeated calls to customer services have had varied responses, including one requiring me to list with ITC (definitely not a standard requirement) I even offered to pay for the full 24 months of the contract as a lump sum, without success. As I have no credit references at this stage, having never had any accounts or debit orders, it would seem that I am not considered credit worthy. However, I am not asking for any equipment as part of the contract, only data, which makes this a very low risk for Vodacom. If I don't pay they can simply cut the service for which I am paying up front. If one cannot get this type of account, how are you supposed to build a credit record?
