CANCELLATION OF CONTRACT

Telecommunications

My husband and I are emigrating to England and I called vodacom to cancel my contract. There are 11 months still on the contract. I had read up about the CPA and was pleased to read that for cellphone contracts, I could expect about a 10% charge of the outstanding contractual balance and be asked to hand in my handset. I called Vodacom. Their customer service is shocking. No-one could help me. They insist that I have to pay 75% of the outstanding balance which is about R3600 - this is a lot to pay out. I asked to speak to someone who could assist me as I felt this amount was unfair. I have since discovered that MTN and CellC only charge 3 months of the contract. I am appalled at Vodacom's "don't care" attitude. Apparently there is no-one heading up their customer service team and I was told categorically that I would just be passed from person to person and no-one was capable of understanding my situation or considering an alternative. I want to negotiate this fee and come to a reasonable solution. I don't feel this is reasonable. If I had known we would be moving, I wouldn't have renewed my contract.
