Helmet very noisy

I purchased a motor cycle crash helmet from Spirit Motorcycles on 1 June 2013 from the store in Montague Gardens, Cape Town, the weather conditions over the last few weeks was poor and I therefore was not riding my bike, thus had not tried the helmet out, this week I used the product for the first time and found the product to be extremely noisy (wind noise) and am therefore not happy with the performance of the crash helmet. I have paid the store a visit and the staff who assisted me refused to accept the product back as they claim that they only have a 30 day exchange policy and cannot take the helmet back as it is now 3 days later. I feel that the R1199 that I have spent is wasted as I will never be happy with the product and told this to the sales assistant who assisted me today.

The person who helped me today instead advised me to use silicone sealant to block the vents to decrease the wind noise. I am not happy with this as it will block the vents and limit ventilation.

Please advise me what my rights are as a consumer and if I have the right to demand a refund or a reasonable exchange for the amount that I spent on the product.
