Momentum Health
Misleading Optometry Benefits

Health & Medicine

I would just like to express my utter disappointment with Momentum Health. The optometry benefits as per member brochure is as follows: 1 eye test and 1 pair of clear standard with standard frame per beneficiary every 2 years. Subject to qualifying criteria. We went for an eye test on 12 Jan 2013. The receptionist phoned me on today and told me that after confirming our benefits they are only going to pay R 570.00 per member. That means that they are not even going to cover glasses fully, not even half. To put it in perspective, an eye test is R 355.00 per person, which leaves us with R 215.00 left for a frame and standard lenses. I understand that they don't cover extras but ours are as standard as can come (standard single vision lenses with a frame). That is not even covered. The optometry benefits is misleading. You don't get: 1 eye test and 1 pair of clear standard lenses with standard frame per beneficiary every 2 years but instead AN EYE TEST AND 1/2 A LENS which I can do nothing with. Why do we pay R 30 000 a year if Momentum is not even willing to pay for: 1 eye test and 1 pair of clear standard lenses with standard frame per beneficiary every 2 years?
