Lancet bills for unauthorized work done

My child has been referred to Lancet by our GP for blood tests on the 6th March 2013.
We took the referral to Lancet and asked for a quote on the work being done. they quoted R1736 which we agreed and made a payment on the same day by EFT (6 March 2013, 10:48am). In actual fact they mentioned that we must first make the payment before they can proceed. After a period of a few weeks I get another R1174.90 bill from them for work done. I phoned Lancet and they explained that their internal processes requires them to carry on with testing when a certain test shows positive. I asked them who gave authority to continue testing? Now they are trying to pass the buck to myself and to the GP, wasting my time and money. I just had to spend 17 minutes on the phone to try and resolve it, without success.
