Europcar
Billed for damages that i did not cause

Cars & Transport

I rented a car from Europcar at O.R Tambo Airport on the 16th of March 2013. When I returned the vehicle, a scratch underneath the front bumper was noted. I was made to sign a document claiming that i did not know anything of the scratch which i duly did. The guy assured me that nothing would happen of the scratch because i have claimed innocence. Last night i received a bill for the damages!

I am not sure how the scratch got there and I am not liable to pay for these damages because I did not do it. Maybe the pre-inspection of the vehicle was not done properly because the scratches were practically under the front bumper. Does Europcar really expect their customers to inspect under the vehicle as well? There was no way that i could have seen that when i took out the vehicle on the 16th of March 2013 as the garage was lowly lit up. How do you expect me to see something underneath the front bumper?

I cannot recall any incident where the bumpers would have been scratched during my rental. Why should i pay for someone else's scratches? It is not fair.

I've spoken and emailed Europcar. Not sure if they will contact me.
Hope to hear from someone soon.
