Europcar
Hiring damaged vehicles

Cars & Transport

I hired a VW microbus from Europcar on the 21st of September 2013 at Cape Town International Airport and and left on my trip. At our destination I had a better look at the vehicle and noted that the front tyres were smooth and the tyres were not the same brand either so I phoned Europcar who agreed to swap out the vehicle with one that was roadworthy. The next day a Hyundai H1 arrived and was handed over to me in the evening. I had a walk around this vehicle and all looked ok, after using the vehicle for 5 days we returned it to the Cape Town drop off. The guy inspecting the vehicle pointed out a crack on the rear black plastic bumper and lodged a damage report immediately. I explained to him that i had in no way bumped the vehicle and also showed him that it clearly old damage. I then sent the manager Paula Bryce an email explaining these 2 incidents but was told that the damage was significant and I was to be billed a further R9910.51 for a replacement bumper. I feel that damage is purposely left on vehicles so Europcar can intentionally claim for damages from those who have not gone through the vehicle with a fine tooth comb. My fault for not checking properly BUT BE WARNED!!!
