Scratched or Not?

On 22 April I rented a car from AVIS Menlyn, Pretoria. Before I took delivery of the vehicle it was inspected by myself and a lady from Avis. To me the car looked in fine shape with no obvious scratches etc. The lady informed that the fuel gauge was faulty and it was noted on the inspection papers. she asked me to inform the receiving person of the fact.

I returned the vehicle to OR Tambo airport the following morning. Upon arrival a gentleman greeted me asking if I re-fueled the vehicle. I said no and mentioned the faulty fuel gauge. No further inspection was done.

Later during the day I received a SMS stating that the vehicle was damaged. They provide a number of Vusi which I promptly phoned. He indicated that there was a small scratch on the left front bumper. I told him that the vehicle was not inspected on my return and that I would like to see proof of the scratch in the form of a photo - he simply mentioned that it was very small and could be polished out. he will advice me.

To date AVIS had not returned my deposit nor had I any feedback from AVIS/Vusi in that regard. I have tried to contact them on numerous time on the number they provided without any luck.
