Europcar
Billed for damage I didn't cause

I rented a car from Europcar at King Shaka Airport on 1 December 2012. When I returned the vehicle, a minute chip was noted on the windscreen. I was assured at the time by the staff at the branch that it would not be a problem as nobody came to inspect the vehicle with me when I took possession of it. Almost 4 months after the incident, I received a bill for repairs to the windscreen. I do admit that I should have properly inspected the vehicle with a member of staff before I took possession of it, but in all honesty it was such a small chip that it would easily have been missed anyway. I cannot recall any incident where the windscreen would have been damaged. I see there are similar complaints on this forum, which raises a question about Europcar's business practices. I want to stress that I do not have an issue with paying for damages caused by me, but in this instance I very much doubt that I was the person responsible for the damage to the vehicle.
