Cars & Transport

My mom has a Dec. 2003 Megane 1.6 A/T sedan which she looks after METICULOUSLY!! Last week we had slight rain (as it IS Winter) and after she had driven a distance of 7km on a slightly wet road, her car electronics decided to go haywire and displayed "Electronic Fault" on the dashboard. We had the car towed into the closest Renault dealership (Tygerberg) and they ran a diagnostic which showed the fuse box to be the problem. They have quoted almost R5000.00!!! for parts and labour and the part has to be paid in full before they will order it (thats R4000.00!). Why would the fuse box (in the engine bay) become wet and corroded and thus faulty??? Its a sedan driven on a normal road in normal weather and NOT a 4x4 which had gone wading thru a river!!
I have also discovered that it is fairly common on these vehicles and Renault have not even had a recall to rectify the problem!!! I believe and hereby INSIST that the repairs are covered by Renault SA as it is CLEARLY a FACTORY DESIGN FLAW!!
I await your positive response!!! PS. It is URGENT as my mom cares for my disabled sister and cannot be stranded without transport!! Thankfully they were home safely before the car stalled!
