Quoted for replacement of undamaged parts

My car overheated because the part that holds the coolant cracked and the coolant leaked out.

Renault Melrose replaced this part and put in new coolant.

They then quoted me a total of R27, 400 for the work done as well as further work to replace the gasket, cambelt (although this has been replaced fairly recently) and other parts to get my car in working order again.

I took the car to a another mechanic, and THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH MY GASKET!

Renault quoted me a huge sum to fix a part that is perfectly fine. The other mechanic charged me R1000 to service my car and it is running perfectly with no heating or engine issues.

When I told Alan Bernicchi that the repairs quoted were so expensive I was thinking of selling my car, the advice that he emailed me was the following "if you are going to trade it in then go straight to whoever will give you the most money. (don't tell them about the heating problem)".

I am shocked that Renault South Africa would recommend I sell a car to someone and not tell them it has an overheating problem.

I would never do that, and I have lost all trust in the Renault brand and the dodgy quotes and advice from Renault Melrose.
