I had an old account, opened in 2000, which was at the time a SAVINGS account with no fees, I left it as a savings account thinking my money was safe and earning interest for a while. All that was required for it to remain open is a R50 balance. I tried over a week ago to have the account closed at a branch and receive my money and was informed that it had already been closed but they could no tell me when, why, and how much was in the account. Unaccpetable. No one even tried to contact me! This for a SAVINGS account, money which may be needed or for next of kin.

I'm told I'll be contacted in 48 hours. 3 days later no one had contacted me. I phoned and am told it's 48 hours from the next working day, why didnt you say so! No-one contacted me. I call again 5 days later & passed to the complaints department. Lodge my complaint. Today I'm phoned and told that it was closed due to inactivity cause it's 'technically" a "transaction" acc. BS, and need to PROVE the balance I'm claiming. I've never received a statement and am told "we don't send them for SAVINGS accounts"but I can PAY for one. I'm then told that they don't need to pay me back after 3 years (ahem, they closed it 2011)
