Power unit burn in house

Business & Finance

On 21 January 2013 our power unit in our house burn. We rent out the house. The tenant phone us and said that the power unit in the kitchen had burn. I phone ABSA insurance to log a claim. Speak with Lorraine. She told me to get a electrician to look what's wrong. The electrician repair the electricity the next morning after replacing the earthleakage and isolator on the board. When I phoned ABSA, I speak with Angena, to follow up on my claim, they told me they shall phone the electrician and ask them what was the case, why the unit burned. I phoned several times to follow up. They only phoned twice to update me with the claim progress. On the 7th of February they appoint a company with a assessor. I sent the invoice that I received from the electrician to this company. Last week on the 15th February - when I phoned ABSA - they (ABSA) told me that they will pay us a amount of R168.50 for the damage, because - according to them - the damage was caused by lightning. The excess amount for damage by lightning is R1000.00. There was never a word mentioned by me that there was lightning. Must I settle for this R168.50, or what can I do?
