I have been contacted by RCS collections. Firstly, I am aware that I owe money and have never disputed this or refused to pay and told various RCS collection agents that I am unemployed. Why is it then that I have to explain my reason for my account being behind every time I am called by RCS. Either your system is not working or your staff does not know how it works or how to do their jobs. Collection agents do not have an easy job but should realise that as they are dealing with people trying to make ends meet that they will be confronted with conflict. But with RCS the second you sound a little frustrated or irritated for whatever reason then you are being threatened that the call will be terminated. At times they have gone as far as giving me financial advice - in breach of FAIS. Companies have systems in place for a reason so that each interaction with a client can be recorded - why should clients have to repeat everything every time they are called. Debt collection in SA is equivalent to extortion. One is being threatened by collection agents who go as far as encouraging you to borrow money somewhere else to pay them - in breach of the NCA - training I needed at RCS.
