Impossible to close credit card account

In August 2013 I decided to close my Absa credit card account. I looked on the intenet to see what my balance was, and I paid it. On 17 August 2013 I went to the Waverley Plaza branch to close the credit card. What a time-consuming process. First I had to wait in the customer service queue to close the account. There they told me that I had to pay pro rata bank fees of R28-70. So, another queue to pay the fees. Then, back to customer service, where they phoned some number and 'closed' the account. This whole process took more than an hour.
The end of August, I checked on the internet, and to my disgust I noticed that the account was NOT closed, and I was owing bank fees again. I thought they were a bit slow, I will just wait and see what happens the end of September, surely the account would be closed by then.
Well, end of September, still nothing. I went back to the branch on 7 Oct 2013, again the account was 'closed'... and, guess what... jip, you've got it, still not closed. Is there any way in this world Absa can perhaps train their staff on how to close an account? I;'m not willing to stand in any queue again - Absa should sort this problem out once and for all.
