First National Bank
Do not trust telephone promises

Business & Finance

I accepted an offer for top-up insurance from a telemarketer (against my better judgement). However, very soon after the call I regretted that I accepted. However, I was told (as I seem to remember) that I will receive a contract, and only after signing and accepting the contract it will become binding. I therefore decided to wait for the contract and then cancel. The contract never arrived, and I forgot about it until I saw that the premiums went through from my account. I then contacted FNB through my Premier Banker, who forwarded my complaint to the card department. I received the following curt response: "We are unable to refund any premiums on account as the TDP was done telephonically on the 04/07/2013 and client had 30 days to cancel.
If the customer did not receive his policy documents within 30 days he had to contact the call centre to advise in order for them to send docs."

Apart from the tone of the response, I feel they did not exhibit ANY interest in me as a customer. I certainly would not trust them with anything told over the phone. Please beware - FNB should not be trusted when you are contacted by phone - this is their attitude.
