Can't seem to close my account!

I recently changed my bank account to another bank, after comparing the level of service my husband receives from his bank. I kept my Standard bank account open to sort out all the Debit order switching. I then actually forgot about the account until I received a call stating that my account was in arrears and that I needed to IMMEDIATELY PAY THE BALANCE. The outstanding balance was R40 - since banking charges had obviously been going off on this account. I then told them that I wanted to close this account and could they please confirm the exact amount to pay, so that I would be able to close the account. After paying the exact amount outstanding on 2013/09/20, I still received an SMS on 2013/09/23 stating that I was in arrears and needed to pay IMMEDIATELY to prevent further action. I went into the branch and closed my account. Unfortunately it seems that closing a Standard bank account is impossible, as on 2013/10/27 I received an SMS telling me that my account is now in arrears with R204.27. I tried to call their Call centre, but still can't seem to get them to close this account and fees keep accumulating.
