Credit Card not being closed and charges accruing

I closed my credit card account in November 2012.

In March 2013 I received an SMS stating my account is overdue. I contacted the call centre who informed me that there were charges that was only reported after the card was closed and these charges were due plus interest. Bear in mind this is only made known to me 6 months after the fact.

Just wanting to be done with Standard Bank I immediately paid the amount outstanding and insisted that the account now be closed as it is impossible that any further charges could mysteriously accrue. The consultant confirmed that the account is now closed.

Today, 8 months later, I receive a SMS stating that my account is overdue.

I contacted the call centre and they apologised stating that the charges will be reversed and the account will now actually be closed.

This is no more than a. The bank conveniently neglects to actually close the account earning service fees and interest on service fees and 8 months down the line when it is a substantial amount they demand payment and out of frustration customers pay and 8 months later they do it again. I wonder how many people get every year like this.
