I had an Absa Credit Card that was fully paid up and in November 2012 I requested that the account be closed. To my surprise I received a statement for admin fees in January 2013. When I queried it they said that an admin error was made and the account will be closed but the outstanding amount must be paid first. I reluctantly paid the R54. To my surprise I out of the blue received an account in October 2013 for R54 admin fees again. When I phoned I was told by BRADLEY that they will this time close the account BUT I had to settle the account first. I told BRADLEY that I refuse to pay the R54 again, and would rather see Absa in court as this is now a matter of principal. I was then told by BRADLEY that there is no reason for me to "HAVE AN ATTITUDE"

I then demanded to speak to a manager. After what seems to be ages Bradley came back and said that the manager was too busy to speak to me, but that the manager said they will write off the R54 and close the account. The telephone number on the statement 012-317-0000 for the switchboard (it also is the number to dial in the case of an EMERGENCY to report a card), goes through to a fax number? Very poor Absa - very poor indeed!
