Dishonesty on use of Credit card

I paid my ABSA Platinum Credit card in full early 2012. I am pretty sure I also notified them to close the card as I closed all my other ABSA accounts due to poor service.
Today after 18 months I got a call from them saying that I owe them in excess of R1500 on service charges although I have not used the card for 16 months.

1. Why would I close all my ABSA accounts, and not this Credit Card account if I am not using it?
2. If I did not close the account as they say, why are they only now phoning me? This smells of dishonesty
3. It is between the word of a call-center agent and mine if I actually did close the account. There is no proof either way except to possibly get copies of all my previous calls to ABSA during that time from Vodacom.
4. I have not received any statements from ABSA for as long as I can go back via the email address provided. I suspect the reason for this is because I closed the account.
5. According to them I still cannot close the account until I pay the money which I am not going to pay. That means more interest will be accumulated and I will most probably be blacklisted.

This is a joke and a disgrace.
