Nearly stranded in Europe because of Std Bank

I used my Bluebean card during a recent overseas trip. In the last city that we visited, I paid at check-in. The transaction was approved and I received an SMS to inform me. During the night I received an SMS to contact Standard Bank's Division. I tried but kept on getting the message "all agents are busy". We went to buy tickets for the train journey to get our connecting flight. This transaction was rejected. Fortunately, we could pay with my wife's ABSA credit card. I again tried to contact the bank, with no success. Our hotel in Vienna is a reputable one and there was absolutely nothing suspicious about the transaction there. My wife used her ABSA credit card on the trip and she had no problems. The morning after we returned I phoned the Division. The consultant I spoke to could not explain why my transaction at the hotel was flagged by the bank's system. He also could not explain why they blocked my credit card without contacting me. The previous time that I was asked to contact the Division was after I transferred funds from my own savings account to my credit card account. Standard Bank's Division can cause serious problems to legitimate clients.
