Standard Bank
Credit Card Division

Business & Finance

Standard Bank allowed a merchant to debit an amount from my credit card, over the allowed credit limit and without sending me an sms notification. I had informed SB via telephone that I was having a dispute with the merchant re the invoice amount and had the initial transaction reversed, but when I checked online the following day, the transaction had been processed, without me having received an sms notification and the amount processed put my credit card R400 in arrears! When I called Card Division, I was informed my account was now handed to Collections department and my account was blocked!! I had to settle the amount, even though SB allowed the amount to be debited over my limit!! If I had received an sms notification when the transaction occurred, I would have been able to reverse the transaction!! I have paid the debt (even though SB is liable) and after being pushed around by 5 different call center agents I have now asked for my credit card to be closed!!! So disappointed in the lack of assistance. Yes, I did give the merchant my cc number, but as I was in dispute with the merchant, I was counting on SB to send me an sms notification and to not allow debit over my limit!!
