Flight Cancellation due to a 'Cyclone'

My partner and I was on the cancelled SA191 flight scheduled to leave Mauritius on the 2nd of January but due to a cyclone, our plane was the ONLY flight canceled that day AND there were empty seats on your other flights

This is what I found absolutely absurd about my 25 hour waiting experience:

1) We had to pay for our own taxi fares, accomodation and food for two days - Your ground staff simply telling us to return to our hotel was a little impossible to do

2) On top of all the 'helpful' suggestions on what to do, your ground staff to us saying the cyclone will reach a class3 within the next day, the airport will be shut down and "we better go to a hotel before all the rooms are booked out" just to get rid of us and our complaints

3) It took us another hour at check in because of a fault in the SAA system because the flight was not logged in South Africa (or some other excuse)

4) Thank you for the generic letter of apology that actually means nothing to me as a consumer

5) Flight was delayed for another hour because of a baggage check (all the passengers were waiting, ON THE PLANE)

Simply saying there is nothing that you can do, is not good enough!
