Canceling of return flight

I had a flight booked jhb to durban on 13 June 2013 and a return flight durban to johannesburg 18 June, due to change in plans I did not take the 13 June 2013 flight but travelled by car to durban. When I arrived at Durban airport on 18 June 2013 for my return flight to Johannesburg I was told that it was cancelled! My wife took the 13 June 2013 flight and informed Kulula staff that I will not be taking the 13 June flight. As was explained to me the Kulala policy is that if you do not take the outgoing flight your retun flight gets cancelled, this was not communicated as such and seams very one sided and unfair as I have paid for a ticket and expect to be able to use it. Surely the call centre could have communicated with me prior to canceling my return flight!!?? Very dissapointed. On the upside after lots of drama and going from one counter to the next for 45 minutes the Kulula staff manged to get me on the flight with 5 minutes to spare before take off. I am sure these rediculous arrangements are spelled out in the terms and conditions but this on sided customer treatment leaves a very bitter taste in the mouth, anyway, consumers vote with their wallets.
