Mtn’s Free loyalty program costs my wife R2200

My wife has a contract with MTN. She registered with MTN's loyalty program to earn points that can be used to buy extra data bundles, like a 24h internet bundle, and then use the handset as a modem to access the internet. We have done this before and it worked great. At 6:30 pm we used points to buy a bundle. At 7pm I got the first sms: "Yellow, You have purchased 24Hour data bundle using 1700 Loyalty Points. Your available Points balance is 2144 points". This gave us the green light and we started our 24 hour window on the internet. After 4 or 5 hours we logged off and slept. The next day the phone was blocked and we had a bill of R2200. At 9am we got the second sms 14 hours late: "Yellow, you've successfully loaded a MTN Broadband Unlimited 1Day bolt on data bundle. Please activate before 20130411 by dialing *141*6*5*3# ". The first sms misled us into thinking we are now in the 24 hour window, when the window would only have opened after the second sms. The MTN in Menlyn said they can't help us and we have to pay. If the first sms included instructions telling us to wait for the activation, we could have clearly understood how the 24 hour window works. We want our money back
