Unable to carry over minutes when upgrading

I have over 500 minutes on my account and will not be allowed to carry them over when I upgrade, this is not right as I have paid for these minutes during my contract period, I went into my local vodacom and was instructed by the store manager that ' this is just the way it is and there's nothing I can do about it' which I find to be a very unsatisfactory response, attempting to contact vodacom and take up the issue with someone further up the corporate ladder has been futile
