8ta not abiding by Consumer Protection Act

Telecommunications

I signed up for an 8ta 10gig 3G contract after having tested the connection and speed using one of their prepaid sim cards. However, as of late the service quality has deteriorated and I am unable to even use my full cap at the speeds. Wonder if this is not due to them overloading their network with cheap offers - rather focusing on getting everyone tied into a contract as opposed to delivering a service.

That brings me to my next point - I want to cancel my contract and move across to landline ADSL in the hopes of better speeds. However, upon phoning to cancel the 24-month contract (to which there is absolutely no device fee attached) I was told that I would have to pay a penalty fee of R800 and ALL the remaining subscriptions. This is in total contravention of the Consumer Protection Act and this just begs the question how 8ta can get away with total impunity from legislation...

I am considering alternatives like either just cancelling the debit order, changing accounts, going to my lawyer or the National Consumer Council as their service is disappointing to say the least.

Please watch for the standard response they send regarding an email that they to me... will update you
