Vodacom refuses to port my nr to another network

I called Vodacom and asked for a premature cancellation quote. They happily agreed, sent me an email with the cost of what I had to pay to get off their network. I am quite happy to pay it mind you.

Now that I have contacted another network and asked them to take over my number, Vodacom refuses to let my number go, stating all sorts of excuses as to how I didn't go onto pre-paid, how they can only help me untill Friday (leaving me phoneless and numberless on Saturday and all subsequent days untill I get the new phone from the new network). Saying I had to give them 30 days notice, none of which I was told of during my first call to them.

It is sooo painful to try to talk sense into the heads of witless all centre attendants. My request is very simple. Cancel my Vodacom contract, let my number go over to another network, but only on the actual day that I receive the phone form the new network, therefore, don't leave me without any number whatsoever for any period of time.

Could somebody please resolve this problem?
