Billed on old package after upgrade

I upgraded from 75MB 3G card to the Wi-fi uncapped (R299/month) on 14 Sep 12. End of Oct 12 I received a bill for R4, 200 and was told that Mtn billing period is 13th to 13th of each month so I was billed on my old package. No one informed me that the upgrade would only be active a month later, they handed me the product and I went on my way thinking I had upgraded.
I logged a query and every month end my phone and wi-fi would be cut and I would phone 808 to have them reconnected until in Dec they told me I was liable for the debt as I had used the bandwidth (Yes I did use the bandwidth under the impression that I was on the upgraded package)
I refused to pay and threatened to go to another service provider and they reconnected my phone. Then I was called to the branch and the solution was now that the branch manager pay half and I pay half. The error was made by Mtn and I can't believe they want one of their employees along with one of their customers to settle their debt.
It is sad as I have been on one of their top cell packages for over 6 yrs and was very happy with their service. My wife and 2 kids are with Mtn as well, I think this may change very soon.
