Inaction that cost me money!!

Context, i called around September to enquire about cancelling my contract. I was informed I could call in December to request this. I did call on the 6th but was informed again to call in Janaury from 6th. I only called in on the 23rd to again request my line to be cancelled. I spoke to Danny who informed me that my line will be cancelled but I am still liable to pay for January even though I requested my line to be cancelled in December. He then promised to use my call on the December 6 as notice to terminate my line but i still have to pay for January which i do not believe is fair! He further promised to listen to my call in December as his colleague noted that i needed the line as pre-paid which I DID NOT request. may i have my line cancelled and no debit to run in run off my account at the end of February.
