Vodacom
Discrimination towards self employed people

Telecommunications

After filling in my details on the Vodacom online shop and getting a ref. no. & a message that an agent would call withing 24 hours no one called after 2 days. When I called the number provided I had to wait over 5 minutes. Great way to treat a potential new customer!

When I was eventually connected I was told I could not open a contract over the phone as I am self employed & that I should go to a shop where they would be able to help me if I took in my bank statements. I find this highly discriminatory as I would have to pay a -R200 connection fee in store and will not get the benefit of free delivery. I can provide bank or tax statements via email just as easily that prove I can more than afford a contract or a simple credit check would also show that I am credit worthy. So a minimum wage worker can get a contract over the phone that they can barely afford, but although I earn a lot more, my money is no good. That is discrimination! Vodacom has just been too lax to set up systems for the online shop to deal with such situations. Dealing with the fact that I am self employed should not be my problem!

I complained via email and no one responded. Very poor service!
