Vodacom
Problems with new phone within first 7 days

Telecommunications

My daughter was mugged and her phone was. She was on a Top Up contract and was due for an upgrade. She chose the new Nokia 301 advertised in the June brochure on a 99 Top Up contract. She was told to bring it back if there were problems within the first 7 days. The first time that she used it the Whatsapp was faulty and was backspacing as she typed. Also strange codes appeared on the screen when she checked her airtime. We took it back after 5 days and were told that it would have to be sent to Joburg for repairs. When we questioned this protocol we were told that this information was in the fine print in the contract, despite the verbal assurance that it would be replaced if brought back within 7 days. The phone was taken. We did not hear from Vodacom. After 8 days we went in to the shop. They then replaced the phone. The second phone, also a Nokia 301 had exactly the same problem as the first. Again we returned the phone. Now for the second time she is without a phone while we sit waiting for a solution from Vodacom. If all the Nokia 301 phones have the same problem, my daughter does not want to be tied to it for a 2 year contract period. What are her options?
