Must I still be brand loyal?

Telecommunications

I have been a MTN customer for over 8 years and have had 2 simultaneous contracts. Recently (on the 17th October 2012) I ended one of my contracts and went onto MTN prepaid. I then decide to be brand loyal and upgrade my prepaid acc again to a contract. I went to the Hermanus store and asked that they do this - went through the standing in line, filling in all the forms, choosing a phone etc. All was approved by MTN only to be told I will need to wait until JANUARY 17th 2013 as I need to have a prepaid number for 3 months, which is stupid and annoying, but policy I suppose. The staff there said they would keep the phone and the contract documents I had already opened there until this date. I went back today to collect my phone (HTC Desire C on MTN R350 open line for R249 per month - it was advertised as this price when I applied around about the 20th December). When I went back the contract had increased to R299 per month and they did not have the phone that I asked for them to keep for me. This is pretty bad service on their part - also I am now penalised R50 per month (which works out to R1200 for the 24 month contract).
