Bad Service after 17 years with MTN

I got a new job and now being paid on last day of the month. Tried to change debit order to go off on 31st each month. Got SMS confirming that was done but received a call to say that is not the case, that cannot be done. I mean its the 3rd we still have the whole month but I am told I have to whether I like it or not be a cash paying client until on the 31st when they will change my debit date. That is surely unacceptable, I am so disgusted with MTN and wouldn't mind leaving them for the competitor right now.
