False Terms and Conditions

Signed up at the glen sometime in Nov/Dec 2012 with a friend and we were told that its on month to month, Today I called attempting to cancel my membership due to lack of funds as I am a student.. I'm told by "kappie" that I'm wrong and I signed a 36 month contract (Which is not what I was told on the day of signing the contract)
Can anyone advise a way forward?
