False presentation of contract

When I signed up with Sport and Fitness Club Alberton my first question to the consultant was- What are the terms and conditions of terminating my membership? and he (Craig) said to me that I can terminate at anytime all I have to do is go to their reception area and fill in a form. Beginning of June 2013 when I wanted to terminate, their (Alberton) accounts department told me that I've signed up for 3yrs so I have to pay for the outstanding period or get a replacement, I then raised it up with Craig who to my surprise told me that he did not disclose that because he was not aware of it when he signed me up so it's something that's just being implemented. The other thing is that I never received a copy of my contract and Craig (Consultant) kept ducking and diving every time when I asked for it and I was also told by one of their ladies at reception area that a lot of members didn't receive their contract copies.
