Crazy 'Hidden' Costs

Shops, Products, Services

On Saturday, 2 February 2013, I went to the @Home Store, Sandton City to purchase a small table priced at R2999. Upon enquiry of where I can take ownership and transport it in my own vehicle I was informed that I had two options: 1) Drive to Centurion to pick it up myself or 2) Pay R400 delivery cost. I was taken aback by this and enquired that if I pay, why can it not be delivered to the store purchased and I can transport it myself. The simple response was: 'No, that is not procedure, delivery to store still costs R400'. I can fully appreciate the fact that stock cannot be kept on site if not purchased, but if a customer purchases an item, surely this can be scheduled (at least) with the next store delivery?! This is absolute day light, as EVERY client therefore is either forced to pay the R400 or drive ~50 km from this specific store to collect. Upon enquiring what someone in Bloemfontein's option would be for argument's sake, I was candidly informed that they also pay R400. This makes the situation even crazier as delivery price is therefore not coupled to delivery distance! So, @Home, you lose a R2999 sale, because of a 'hidden' 10% delivery cost. I'm done.
