PEP STORES REFUSES TO GIVE ME A NEW PHONE

I purchased a Nokia X2 - 02 Cellphone from Pep Stores 0412-001 East London yesterday the 30th January 2012. When I bought the phone I had the intensions of using it as my 2nd phone where I could be able to chat with peers on the whatsapp social network.
I called the service provider for GPRS connections and did as prompted by the operator. The phone does have internet connection however when I download the whatsapp network it loads and when I open it it gives an error message "file format not supported". I have tried this several times with no success. I have taken the phone back to the store, so they could give me a new one or else I could pay the difference so they can give me the Nokia X1. The store refuses to do this - can you help?
