Device DOES not support the USSD codes

I recently purchased a Nokia Lumia 610 and i found out that we cannot do internet banking or check the balances on airtime or purchase airtime bundles by dialling codes like *111# . My ban k nedbank sends me an sms and asks me to approve it on the phone by replying to the sms and this message gets blocked by the Nokia cellphone ..this means i cannot do internet banking using my Nokia Cellphone.
If i cant do a simple thing like internet banking using my cellphone or check my airtime balance then this phone is just like a brick to me ..its pretty much useless . i tried contacting the nokia support line and the lady told me to download some other application to check my airtime balance, i asked the support lady to put me through to a manger and she did not put me through, instead she kept saying ussd not supported .i dont know what USSD is as im a consumer, all i know is that it should work as a regiular phone . i shouldnt have to download another app as it will just consume my batt power if it is running in the background 24/7. i regret purchasing this phone . i need Nokia to replace this phone with another one that supports USSD or refund!
