Manager does not know cutomer service

I went to ELI at Worldwear where I had previously purchased two items of clothing. I subsequently returned one item as it had blue ink visible on the belt loop. I received a credit note.

My copy of the credit note had been at the airport and I explained that to the store clerk. I proceeded to take out my I.D. book and show her that the name in the store copy of the credit note matched my identification. They asked me to verify my details such as my cellphone number and did so willingly.

The store clerk recognised me and remembered that she had issued me the credit note. She called the manager to ask if it is ok if I redeem it using my I.D. Initially she said no, she must come in when I am in. I was surprised because she did not say when she would be in the store, she expected me to drop what I am doing and come to the store when she is there.

Manager called me and asked if I had the receipt and noted its irrelevant if the issue is the credit note. She eventually agreed to me bringing my I.D. She then tells store clerk I must make a copy which would entail me driving to another centre.
Manager calls again to say what if someone else comes to claim credit note. Really?
