Spent thousands and wouldn't exchange 1 thing

On 11/11/2013 spent total of R2224.51 at Baby City. One item was a battery operated pop up book. I read it once to my grandson and then it only worked intermittently. Seemed to be a loose wire so returned to shop on 20/11/2013. The manageress was unwilling to exchanged it as it was working for her. I explained that yes it worked sometimes then not. She was very condescending and asked if i had changed the batteries as they don't last forever you know. Also that she wouldn't be able to re-sell it. Do you usually re-sell defective items?? I could see she was not going to exchange it for me and I became angry grabbed my book and left. Now at home isn't working again! I have spent thousands of Rand in this shop and this is the first time I have tried to exchange anything. The book was R139.99 and I was made to feel like I was doing something wrong returning it. Earlier this year I tried to buy a camp cot there, I asked several times for assistance and no one bothered. The shop was not busy being a Monday morning so I left and bought elsewhere. Which is where I will be spending my money in future. I have sent a message to Baby City on their site but have had no reply! :(
