6 hours to take a head off an engine - go slow

On Friday my Renault logan broke down. Knowing a little about motor cars and having years of driving experiece I knew it was most likely the cambelt.
I got hold of Renault assist and they were very good in getting the vehicle to Renault Northcliff.
I told the service adviser that it was most likely the cam belt. They said that they would look and see. She contacted me and said that it was the cam belt and that they would proceed with the inspection to establish costs. She mentioned a price of around R4000.00 which would be included in the repairs if I accepted the quote.
This I believed would be part of the total cost. today I got a quote for Above R12, 000 excluding any machining of the head which to me was totally out of the question. I told them not to proceed.
I was then sent an invoice for R4001.40 to strip a head off and inspect it. According to the invoice this took 6 Hours.
I can't believe this!!!
